What's the Best Hair Removal Method For You?

>> Friday, July 16, 2010

If you want to get rid of unwanted hairs, but are not sure which hair removal method is right for you, then here's what you need to know.

1. Bleaching technically isn't hair removal, as it just uses chemicals to remove the pigment from the hair, which means that the hairs are less visible.

2. Pulling your hairs out using tweezers can be good for getting rid of some hairs that are unsightly, or causing discomfort, but isn't the best method for large areas of hair, as it will take an extremely long time.

3. Shaving is a good easy way to remove your hair, but will need doing regularly, as it only gets rid of the hair at the surface of the skin. Exfoliating the area first, and using an anatomically shaped razor and a good shaving gel or moisturiser will make shaving easier and give better results.

4. With many gadgets and shavers available, you might be tempted to go for one of these. Providing temporary results, they can be quick and easy to use when you don't have time or inclination for a shave with a razor.

5. Hair removing gloves can be effective too, and are sometimes used between shaving or waxing sessions to keep the skin smooth. As well as getting rid of unwanted hair, they help to exfoliate your skin too.

6. Using a depilatory cream to get rid of hairs is also effective. It uses chemicals to dissolve the hair, and is quick and easy to do.

7. Waxing is a very effective method, but not everyone is keen on having hot wax on sensitive areas. Strips are pressed onto the skin, and then pulled off, taking the hairs with them. This method of hair removal can be painful, and difficult to perform on yourself

8. Sugar waxing is like waxing, and uses a paste, rather than hot wax to enable the hairs to be pulled off with strips. Again, this can be painful, and might be better left to a beautician.

9. Electrolysis works by applying a current to a metal probe that is pushed into the hair itself. The current kills the area around the hair follicle, and so the hair doesn't grow back. Whilst effective, it needs to be done by highly trained professionals, and is slow and painful, especially for large areas of skin.

10. Laser hair removal is extremely effective, and is almost a permanent solution to unwanted hair. By using a laser to target the hair follicle, only the hair itself is damaged, and so the other cells aren't damaged. Although a number of sessions are required for best results, the treatment is relatively painless, and it's not surprising that it's becoming more popular.
